Karamjeet Karam

Emerging Leader Alumni Award

When Karamjeet Karam moved to Calgary from Grande Prairie in 2021, she came with a clear goal: to pursue a career in law enforcement and serve her community with integrity and compassion. She enrolled in the Justice Studies Diploma at Bow Valley College in 2022, balancing full time studies with demanding security leadership roles that strengthened her decision-making skills and composure in high-pressure situations—qualities that would define the early stages of her career.

During her final year at Bow Valley College, she secured an internship with the RCMP Turner Valley Detachment, a pivotal step in her journey toward policing. Shortly after graduating in 2024, she took on a leadership role as a Shelter Shift Supervisor at Calgary Alpha House, supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction and mental health challenges. In this harm reduction focused environment, she led crisis intervention, de escalation and frontline responses during high-stress situations, applying trauma informed approaches learned through her Justice Studies education. These experiences reinforced for her the importance of compassion and empathy when working with vulnerable populations.

In August 2024, just weeks after graduating, Karamjeet applied to the Regina Police Service. She advanced through a demanding series of interviews, assessments and evaluations, earning a formal offer in April 2025. She completed six months of intensive police training at the Saskatchewan Police College and graduated in December 2025. Today, she proudly serves as a police officer with the Regina Police Service—a remarkable early career achievement reflecting her perseverance, professionalism and unwavering determination. She is committed to building trust with the communities she serves and modelling ethical, community oriented policing in practice.
