On November 4, 2024, we celebrated the 10-year anniversary of the transformative gift that resulted in the naming of the Chiu School of Business. In 2014, Bow Valley College announced that Calgary business leaders and philanthropists Wayne and Eleanor Chiu, who are founders of Trico Homes as well as the Trico Charitable Foundation, were donating $3 million to support the advancement of the business school as a leader that is staying connected with industry needs and that will prepare our graduates to be career-ready when they enter the workforce.
Over the last decade, the impact for the business school has resulted in doubling the enrollment to more than 10,000 alumni who have graduated from 14 different program offerings. The overall successful program completion rate is 81 per cent for certificate programs and 74 per cent for diploma programs.
Our relationship with the Chiu family has expanded to include Wayne and Eleanor’s son, Patrick, who has provided his guidance and leadership to the Dean’s Strategic Advisory Committee, which continues to embed principles of social responsibility and entrepreneurship within the Chiu School of Business. Patrick is also a member of the Open Doors - Open Minds Campaign Cabinet.
The Chiu family, the Trico Charitable Foundation and Trico Homes have continued to deepen their support towards various student-focused initiatives. Having the Chiu family and their associated businesses connected to Bow Valley College has truly changed the trajectory of where the college is today and where it is poised to be in the next 10 years and beyond.
