Celebrating Student Futures: Championing success together

At Bow Valley College, success is a shared journey. It’s a story written by students, donors, and a community united by the belief in education’s power to launch, advance, and evolve futures. Here, success doesn’t begin or end in the classroom. It starts with a belief from mentors, educators, and, most powerfully, from those who choose to invest in the potential of others. Through the Open Doors – Open Minds campaign, Bow Valley College has witnessed the quiet, transformative power of generosity. Philanthropic support doesn’t just ease financial burdens – it changes lives. On May 14, Celebrating Student Futures: Championing success together provided a unique and meaningful experience for donors to directly connect with their student award recipients and hear firsthand about their academic accomplishments and career aspirations, while students expressed their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for their support.

Dave Collyer is an award donor, community champion, and former Chair of the Board of Governors, and has been a steadfast supporter of the college. When the Open Doors – Open Minds campaign launched, he stepped up without hesitation, driven by his belief in expanding student opportunities and funding new programs. “I’ve talked to students who’ve told me how much their time at Bow Valley College has changed their lives, and how they’re now encouraging others in their families to pursue education too,” Dave shares. “That’s the kind of impact that lasts.”

Eddie Boy Argonza, a Business Administration student majoring in accounting received a Students’ Association (SABVC) Award from the Chiu School of Business. For him, the award meant more than financial support, it was a message of trust and encouragement. Receiving the award eased his financial stress and gave him renewed motivation to pursue his dreams. For Dave, Eddie’s story and countless others are reminders of why giving matters. “Reading stories from students like Eddie affirms why I give,” says Dave. “It’s not just about scholarships, it’s about possibilities. When someone receives support, it doesn’t end there. They carry it forward. They lift others too.”

The impact of philanthropy doesn’t end with this year’s award recipients. It ripples outward, shaping the lives of graduates whose journeys were made possible by generosity. 2021 alumna, Dionne Smith-Castellano received several awards during her time at Bow Valley College. Today, she works as a Talent Acquisition Specialist. Her connection to the college didn’t end with graduation. Dionne returns often, representing her organization at career fairs and speaking to students about the industry and their future potential.

With the continued support of our generous donors, we’re not just funding education – we’re fueling transformation. Together, we’re creating opportunities, building community, and ensuring that our students’ futures remain bright for generations to come.
